We had another great day at music camp! We had hoped to spend a big part of the class outside - but the weather chased us inside for most of the day. We did have time for some sandbox play and a fun big mural of listening art. The kids love to paint on these huge pieces of paper. We talked about listening to the music that was playing (Rhapsody in Blue, of course!) and to paint what they were hearing.
We worked with rhythm again - the kids love to beat the Long... Short patterns with their rhythm sticks. We also introduced them to the terms Forte (loud) Piano (soft) Presto (fast) and Largo (slow). They caught on very quickly and were great little conductors!
We made shakers out of things we see around us (pasta, rice, sand, bells, beads). The kids experimented with the different items and the various sounds they made inside the jars.
We colored large music notes and had the kids place their notes on the staff. We then sang the kids the song they 'wrote' and even added words! The kids (and teachers!!) loved this activity - so we changed the notes around and did it again!
We ended our day with a whole bunch of fun songs: ask your kids about the Button Factory, Music inside Me and of course the camp favorite Ishy Ishy Dance.
See you on Friday for our final day!
