Our First Day of Swan Lake
We had a great first day of our Swan Lake session of camp. We were very impressed with how well all of the kids grasped the musical concepts we taught them! We talked about the music staff and even created a piece of music by letting the kids each choose a place to put their note on the staff. We also listened to parts of Swan Lake and listened for some of the different characters including the prince, the Swan Queen, the hunters, and the sorcerer. We then took a break and played outside - the kids really enjoyed learning each other's names with our parachute listening game! We then cooled off inside and played with the piano puzzle, the floor piano, and our music instrument lacing cards. The group had a great time listening to the illustrated Swan Lake story, then we all made ocean drums to use while we learned about conducting music. The kids each took a turn conducting our class "orchestra" - we learned how to conduct fast, slow, loud, and soft. A great time was had by all the kids!
